Collaborations: Fort Peck Tribes and Partnerships for Native Health, University of Washington

Native People for Cancer Control (NPCC)

Native People for Cancer Control (NPCC) is a program based at the University of Washington. It works with American Indian and Alaska Native communities and organizations in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, North Dakota, and South Dakota to address cancer through prevention, education, access to care, research and art. NPCC is 1 of 25 Community Networks Programs funded by the National Cancer Institute.

NPCC Colon Cancer Screening Project

The NPCC Colon Cancer Screening Project is a 5-year community based research project. It works with 4 American Indian and Alaska Native communities in Alaska, South Dakota, and Montana, including Fort Peck Tribes. The goal of the project is to increase the rate of colon cancer screening through education and decision making. Fort Peck Tribes has a community based coordinator and a community advisory board. The project aims to create media and education materials, distribute materials in the community, and evaluate the impact of materials on rates of colon cancer screening.

Native Community Locally Controlled (LC) Data QUEST

The Native Community Locally Controlled (LC) Data QUEST is a pilot project with the Institute of Translational Health Services (ITHS) which works with American Indian and Alaska Native tribes, health programs, and urban Indian health clinics to create an electronic data sharing tool that is owned and strictly controlled by local communities. Local authorities oversee and regulate access to their data, and release it only when the proposed research has been determined to benefit the health of their community.

We are currently working on other opportunities for collaboration that include projects on Nutrition, Tele-health, FASD, substance abuse, and infant and maternal health.
